Gawler Day One

We had our first full day in Gawler. Gawler is a north suburb of Adelaide and has a population of 20,000. Gawler reminds me of a lot of my hometown of Hays. The morning was spent at the Turretgfield Agricultural Research Station where we learned about the research in combating Huntington's Disease. The station was located out in the country and it was absolutely beautiful. Our hosts keep commenting that we are in the region at the right time of the year before the ground starts browning. The area that we are in is very similar to the Flint Hills region in Kansas.

Check out some pics of the research station at Flickr.

Lunch was spent at the Gunglian Hotel which was the location of a popular TV series in Australia called McLeod's Daughter. We toured a bottle factory in the afternoon where they produce around 250 wine bottles a minute for the wine industry and 450 beer bottles a minute.
